Scotmid Co-op is one of five co-operative society members to sign a 10-year corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with RWE to supply electricity from renewable energy sources to more than 400 locations across the UK. The deal will see around 280 trading sites - including Scotmid, Semichem and Scotmid Funerals stores - supplied by the green energy source. Starting on 1 April, the contract will provide up to 53 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity per year, sourced from the London Array offshore wind farm in the outer Thames Estuary.

Scotland’s oldest electricity transmission line has been pulled down nearly a century after it was built to bring power to heavy industry and shipyards. Known as the G-Route, the line was built in 1929 to connect the Yoker, Dellingburn and Braehead coal-powered power stations in Glasgow and Renfrewshire.
